What to Bring
- All your food and consumables, drinks etc (you can restock via the local market, Supa Ana and at Taurus in Vilanculos). NB We do supply excellent drinking water. Meat and veg are hard to get here but you can get in Vilanculos. Loo paper, dishwashing liquid, matches, etc.
- Cool beach clothing, swimming costume and swimming towels. Hats and rafting sandals/thongs. A warm jacket for the boat and a tracksuit for the odd chilly evening.
- Personal toiletries, soap, shampoo etc
- Mosquito repellant/ sprays. Malaria pills if you are taking them
- Basic first aid kit (don’t forget seasick pills)
- Sun protection factor (30+) and after sun lotion
- Cameras, Ipod, binoculars etc
- Torches and battery rechargeable lamps. This will be handy for crab spotting and in case of power cuts (we now have mains electrify as well as generator.
Please note, candles are not allowed in Ilala due to fire hazards. - We have DSTV / satellite TV.
- Snorkel/ diving gear/ dive certification if you have as well as kite surfs or any other of your favourite sporting equipment ie Boules, cricket bats and such.
- Your bird, fish books etc or a good novel for those lazy days by the pool.
- Your boat, life jackets and your fishing gear.
- Passports with visa if needed, Drivers Licence, registration papers for cars.
- Yellow fever vaccination proof documents.
- Police Clearance for your car.
- Temporary Import Permit (TIP) for boats from Zimbabwe
- Two warning triangles in case you stop on the side of the road (NB you could be fined if you don’t have these triangles).
- At least 1 reflective vest.
- If you are towing you need a blue square with a yellow triangle in it. This should be attached to the back of your trailer.
- Padlocks – for the safe in each bedroom.
Medicine and First Aid
If you are taking medication please bring enough to last your trip as you may not be able to get it here. The local clinic is very good and can treat most casualties. Antibiotics are cheap here, as are Malaria treatments. Bring a basic first aid kit, with antiseptic like Dettol or Methiolate, Betadine, headache pills, waterproof plasters and ear/eye drops.
